            The sources listed below are sources in which I used to help create a paper where I ask questions about my topic. My main topic is how celebrities affect the American teens of today. As I looked deeper into the stakeholders involved in each source, I hope to get across their purposes and answer all the questions that each source may lead to.

·         The stakeholders in this source are the athletes that get the endorsements, the people that endorse these athletes, the parents and the teens that pay for these things endorsed by the athletes. All of these people are the stakeholders because they all end up being affected by the other. The teens are affected because they won’t want to buy the things if the athletes aren’t endorsing it. This then lowers the amount of money made by the companies which then lessens the amount of money made by the athletes. 

2.      "Do Role Models Influence Teenagers’ Purchase Intentions and Behavior?." Journal of Consumer Marketing, 2000, Vol.17(5), P.441-453, 17.5 (2000): 441-453.
·         This source is basically the same as source 1. It is just another source that can be used to back up the idea.
 
3.      "Gangs: Keep Out! Three Teens Tell Why Gangs Are on the Rise and What You Can Do to Stay Safe.(News Special)." Junior Scholastic, Nov 26, 2007, Vol.110(8), P.6(7), 110.8 (2007): 6.
·         The stakeholders within this source are the people that join he gangs, gang members, the people that are affected by gun violence, celebrities that talk about being in gangs, and the community that gangs survive in. they are stakeholders because all of the people are intertwined. First there are gangs in the community, then at some point rappers are part of gangs, and promote these gangs which makes other people want to join these gangs. This means more gang violence because there are more people joining different gangs that go against each other. This means more people suffering from the lost f lost 1s and feeling the pain of their deaths or serious injuries.


4.      Penny, Laurie, and Penny. "Smile Till It Hurts: Generation Y Have Been Brought Up on the Fantasies of Neoliberalism.(Essay)." Soundings, Summer, 2010, Issue 45, P.136(13), 45 (2010): 136.
·         In this source, the stakeholders are the people that read these stories and what to be like these fairytales. This is because the people are living in a fantasy hoping that their lives will be like a fairytales, as the celebrities do in movies, or in books. 

5.      Read, Barbara. "Britney, BeyoncĂ©, and Me - Primary School Girls' Role Models and Constructions of the 'Popular' Girl." Gender & Education, 23.1 (2011): 1-13.
·         This source’s stakeholders are teens and children that celebrities and the celebrities. This is because the children and teens that look up to these celebrities for certain reasons and this makes the children want to dress like the celebrities, but this is a cycle. While the celebritie3s make things popular, we as the judge3s can chose who to idolize more and why.

·         The stakeholders in this source are the celebrities, their parents, and other parents that do good things. They are stakeholders because the celebrities look up to not only older celebrities, but their own parents. It shows that celebrities believe that the real role models are people that helped to feed and clothe them. This then makes the celebrities look up to the people that do this on the daily bas3s.l its makes them look u to people that do what they have to in order to make money, feed, and di fir their young.

Assignment 11

             After going to the conference with the teacher and the other 4 students, I feel like i obtained a
lot of different feedback. It forced me to look closer at my essay and make it better. the first thing
 everyone told me that I needed to do was work on adding in more quotes. I need to make my paper longer, but i also need to add in a few more examples of my thoughts. Everyone liked how my essay was formatted, but in the beginning my main purpose of the essay paper could be more clear. I liked how everyone was hones about my mistakes, and hearing them all repeatedly was a huge reminder that I need to get these things fixed. Within my essay, in the introduction, I will  make more clear the purpose of my essay. Then within the essay I will add in more quotes to analyze and understand. This will allow my reader to better understand where I am going with my thoughts. I also remember a couple of questions on points made in the paper. I will answer these questions. For example, people were really confused by how i was relating gangs and celebrities. I will include in my paper how Lil Wayne is in a gang, and people now want to be like him, so they join the same gang because that is wheat's good. I really liked the conferences and I feel I can create and even better paper than the first one I did.

·         “An extension of People’s Front porch” This is a quote that helps her

essay because it shows the creativity of the language use of the Starbucks Company. It contributes to the style of her voice. It adds to the context of her language that gets people to think that she is proving how they talk and feel about their product. I’ve come to the conclusion that using sources is supposed to show how your source not only relates to your paper, but also to an underlying element in the paper.

2.      Pendergrast, Mark. Uncommon Grounds: The History of Coffee and How It Transformed Our World. New York: Basic Books, 1999.

·         “No amount of advertising could move the shoddy products the major roasters offered.” This source complicates the wording of Starbucks companies. It tells that the wording is shoddy, but also then goes on to use lingo used by the Starbucks Company.  It reflects on how the she views the company, but also how the company is viewing themselves.

3.      Schultz, Howard and Dori Jones Yang. Pour your Heart Into It: How Starbucks Built a Company One Cup at a Time. New York: Hyperion, 1997.

·         “We wanted to introduce them to fine coffees the wine Stewards bring forward fine wines.” This shows what they are trying to promote in their own companies. It pushes toward the reader how the words and language of the company starts to sound people like. It starts to bring about a certain life to the company itself. This shows that your source should relate and fully show and explain the companies’ motives.

            After we watch the clip from 60 Minutes, I have come to realize that detail and attention to everything around a topic is very important. We discussed all of the different people left out of the story and all of the different pieces of evidence left out of the story. We weren’t able to process what really happened or judge anything simply because of the lack of detail provided. I’ve learned that now for my research paper, I need to go in-depth with everything. I need to get things together so my reader isn’t left in the dark by other details. The full story needs to be told from every angle, or it is a bias story. The 60 Minutes clip made it seem like the girl was the victim. Granted she might have been the victim, the storyline left the viewer’s solely open to her point of view and no one else’s which made it bias and sort of unreliable. I now have come to realize that everything is just as important as the part you are trying to prove. It would make your paper more reliable, and it would make it a great paper.

This is an article written by a man named Chris Ballard in 2003 in a Sports illustrated page. The title of the article is “Celebrity STALKER”. This article talks about a movie that an actor named Tommy Lee plays in. It is about the movie and how the person in the movie is a teen and stalks different celebrities, but also helps with finding missing persons. This article may be able to help with my paper, but I doubt it. I could see it being a good way to make it an alternative add to my paper, but it would take a lot of research to try to get it all to relate.



2.      Bennett, Courtney. "FAN CLUB CONFESSIONS: Teens Underestimate Influence of Celebrity Idols." Psychology Today, 35.1 (2002): 18.

This article was written by Courtney Bennett in the academic journal called Psychology Today. She talks about a study that discusses all the different influences that celebrities have on teens. It goes in-depth with the reaction of the teens and how they perceive the celebrity. This will help a lot with explaining my topic. I could use this to further go in to the thoughts on how teens are influenced by celebrities.

This article is written by Bill Carter. It is about how marketers frame their work to get certain kids. This helps with showing the media focuses on teens. In the article, he talks about how they use celebrities to get teens to buy things. This helps with my strategy of celebrities influencing things. Even buying things made by celebrities, influences teens.

This is an article written by an unknown source. It is published in the Nursing Standard. It talks about how teens want to be what celebrities are in real life or in shows. It shows that even the jobs played by celebrities on television or in movies make teens want to be just like them. This article handles the career aspects of teens. It helps show how celebrities play a huge role in teen’s thoughts. This is what my topic is about, and will lead to helping me prove my topic.

They affect a lot of the things that the teens buy and how they act. This helps the same way some of the other articles help. They prove that celebrities influence today’s teens.

This Article is from a book of articles that called “American Psychologist”. It is basically about the human behavior and how this behavior is attributed to others. It analyzes the behavior of people and how they affect others. It uses a structure which is based on a series of trends of experiments they did based upon their experiences with other people. This will help my paper only a little bit. I know that there are better sources out there for my topic. This only talks about other people’s experiences with regular people not necessarily celebrities

This is an article written by Hannah Frankel. It was written in the Educational Supplement. It talks about how teens today think that being successful academically isn’t as good as being successful on a reality television show. This is influenced by the people that get rich off of shows today. The people that teens tend to look up to are these people that are on reality television shows, and not politicians or professors in schools. This helps further prove my point if how celebrities influence teens today.

This is why it is helpful.

 When is abortion truly considered taking a life? This is my question.  The best way to rewrite this question is to write it in a way that it starts to push for a higher level answer. The way I made this question more inquisitive was by wording it like this: When is abortion considered taking a life and when is it wrong to judge a person dealing with their own body? As I was thinking about making this question better, I thought about how not affects the person. The other person is also involved, and considering them would give the audience a way to understand and relate to the person. It would also make it easier to write ten pages on this topic.

                The essay I read was more so about right and wrong. It challenges people to think about the role of abortion and how it deals with the mind. It tells a lot about the people and their thoughts on abortions and how they made these their thoughts. It is a psychology based article, so it deals with cases and different studies. It also talks about the ongoing debate on abortion.

I would use the information from the article to write my 10 page paper. I would also get other sources, but with this one I would look for everything and really analyze what is going on. I will cite all of the different aspects of the brain and how people operate. It will be a great and alternative way to get the thought of it out there. I will use it to explain other aspects of people and their thoughts.

                My favorite question was what draws people to buy things that they see on television? This question relates to everyone, and not just a few people. It is a way for others to connect on a level that forces them to not only understand themselves, but also the media. When I went on the search from the UWM library I saw the perfect article that went along with what I was thinking about. It also went deeper into the behavior and feelings of people and their choices. What they are looking for and how they feel when they see different things on television. My next step would be to find a more sources like this one; maybe about 4-5 more. Then I would start the developing process of the paper and looking forward to how it would be interesting and put it in a creative form.

There are many questions that lead to inquiry. A lot of them are open ended questions. Questions that can’t lead to one definitive answer can be considered an inquiry question. Actually another would be questions based upon behavior where there could be many different answers or solutions to one person's specific problem. Seeing how my major is public relations, many of my questions would deal with behavior and the human condition.



Some of my questions that are inquiry questions to me are:

1. Why is it that when people watch a famous person, and they mess up, when the representative puts the problem in a different perspective people automatically changes their reaction?

2. Why is it that when people do not feel as if they are cared about, they need the connection from a lot of different people to feel wanted?

3. What draws people to buy things that they see on television?

4. What pushes people to like certain famous people, but not like others?

5. We as complicated people like to make decisions without reason. Why is it that we make bad choices over and over again?

6. Why is it that it was alright to legalize alcohol after the prohibition, and people are a able to take prescription drugs that contain a lot of risks, but it is illegal for people to smoke marijuana that doesn’t have many complicated problems to it.

Assignment 3



                After reading Brian’s “the Kitchen”, I reflected on a few questions. His chapter and introduction brought to life a new way of looking at things. I feel like his way of writing is, and is not a fit for our academic model. It is because it is written in the traditional form. It has some new ways to thinking, but ultimately the style of writing and the underlying basis of the project is something that we as a people are used to seeing. While this is the case, this also makes it not part of our academic model. The way he goes about putting information in this chapter and speaking about it is different.

                In the introduction he talks about why he created this book in the first place. He says “… I thought it might be interesting, for the length of a book, to consider the ordinary things in life…” (Brian, 5) This shows that his intensions were supremely to create an interesting way to show and express the different things in the household, and make them liked, understood and accepted by the public. He is chapter definitely represents inquiry. His entire book was based upon questions, and things that most people didn’t know. In the introduction he shows this by analyzing the salt and pepper shakers. “Why not pepper and cardamom, say or salt and cinnamon?”(Brian, 4) This shows exactly where his ideas came from and how he went about the process of writing this story.

                Brian is an inquirer of sorts. He basically walked around his house and questioned why things were the way they were. I understand inquiry to be a way of thinking in which you question things, which cannot truly have a definitive answer. It’s way more than the thought of 1+1=2. Inquiry can be anything from wondering why we wear socks on our feet, to why we call a nose a nose. Brian does a great job of asking these questions and answering them. He follows up and tells a story of how things came to be. He does it in a conversational tone. He talks as If he is talking to me. I liked that. It made the story interesting.

            After reading Davis and Shade’s essay I understood a little more about research papers, and what they are meant to do. In the essay, they are trying to argue the point that research papers are necessary in the world that we live in today. They are arguing this point that research papers are needed and have a purpose in today’s society. They benefit everybody when things need further explanation or exploration into a certain topic. They seem to be analyzing the history of research papers and their relevance to us. I think their model is better because it makes it easier to write research papers. They wanted us to look into their findings and understand their point of view. After analyzing all of their facts and thoughts on this topic, I see what they have come to think and believe.

            When writing a research paper it is important to have a set guideline on how it is going to look or be structured. This is because they tend to be very long. Because they are long, if you just start writing them then, they can become jumbled, or unclear throughout the paper. Your issues and examples may jump around.  A writer always prepares for the research first. They start to get the idea of the topic they want. Soon after they start to find sources that best match the writer’s thoughts and ideas on the topic they chose. Then the writer should create an outline so they can organize the paper in a way that makes it understandable and able to be read clearly. Now, after doing all of that the writer is ready to start and finish a rough draft of their paper. A rough draft is necessary because this gives you a chance to check your writing and correct any errors that may have mistakenly been included. It is best to just read over the paper. After everything is corrected and fixed then the paper has been completed and ready to turn in.

            In conclusion, the model that Davis and Shadle gave was great because it gave a nice guideline on how a research paper can be written. It creates a starting place for people who don’t really write research papers. It’s sort of like a safe haven for beginners. While the reading was long, it was fairly informative and has broadened my view on research papers and how they should be written. While I do already have my own guideline, it is always great to see how others process their thoughts.

Tonight I read a sample reading about teenage rebellion. It talked about how over time we as a people have evolved and rebellion is a new age thing. It expressed how our peers, parents, and the media influence the rebellions. It goes more in depth about how the media is a main cause in causing teen rebellion.  After reading the “The Media Affecting Teenage Rebellion”, I understood what Sarah was talking about in class. I can compare the sample essay with the discussion we had in class about the different definitions of research. The most comparable things I saw were purpose, source, and information.

                In the sample essay, it was teenage rebellion. It focused on the why and discussed how the media was influencing the teenagers to rebel. In class, we discussed how purpose was one way to focus the research paper. The essay had one purpose and it was to inform the reader about rebellion and show how the media adds to the issue. I liked how the essay was set up and hit on every issue on the topic. The person tried to stay in the lines of the main topic a. In class we talked about how the purpose is also part of the researching process. This student had to choose a purpose to discuss, and then research all of the different types of ideas that come with this main purpose. This allows the person to narrow down the topic so they can write a more informative paper.

                Another thing we talked about in class was sources. Sources are a main thing when doing research papers. They help you to use other people’s thoughts in order to prove your point. In the sample essay, the student used many different sources. This student used at least 5 sources and cited them all. The other thing we talked about when dealing with sources is citing. When you don’t cite the people it becomes a problem. This is because you end up using someone else’s words without telling the reader that those are not your thoughts. This is plagiarism and is an offense that is punishable by a low grade in the class. The sample essay had a lot of different quotes and paraphrases that they cited.

                The other topic we discussed in class was information. We talked about how information is a huge thing when dealing with research papers. This information is what the reader takes away from the paper. In the sample article, the information provided was understandable and helpful when trying to understand this person’s main purpose. Information is a valuable thing that we all use in our everyday lives in order to live our daily lives.

                Information, purpose, and source are only three things we discussed in class when dealing with research papers. We talked about many different things that would go into writing and understand research papers. This sample essay was a great example of how a research paper is supposed to look like, but it is also a good read. Not only give me a good look at research papers and their relevance, but it is also a great guideline to see how the papers I write are supposed to look.
